Includes issues of Cartoonist profiles, Notes plus, The Bridgehead sentinel, and 1st Infantry Division 34th Anniversary commemorative publication, all containing cartoons by Levine; includes documents related to payments for cartoons and letters requesting permission to reprint his works; includes letters from Maj. Gen. C.T. Lanham, Brig. Gen. J.F.R. Seitz, Lt. Gen. John E. Dahlquist, Lt. Gen. F.W. Milburn, Lt. Gen. C.R. Huebner, and Col. Robert V. Shinn; also includes issue of his cartoon book You better believe it. Includes the following documents related to his membership in the National Cartoonist Society: application for membership, biography submitted by Levine to the NCS in his handwriting, two handwritten notes from Kevin [McVey] (both include drawings by McVey), a letter of acceptance into the NCS from John Cullen Murphy, president (1981), and two NCS new member lists (1982 and 1983); includes news clippings and book reviews related to his works You better believe it and Here comes the honeywagon; includes copy of the Pat-on-the-back award certificate given to him by the U.S. Army in 1951; includes an advertisement for his cartoon Senator Caucus and two related magazine articles. Includes six photographs dated 1940 through 1987, a handwritten letter to Lucy S. Caswell, curator of the Library for Communication and Graphic Arts of The Ohio State University which contains biographical notes and a New York Times (July 22 1978) obituary for Maj. Gen. Charles Lanham.

The National Cartoonists Society grew out of the so-called "chalk talks" that a number of cartoonists did for the troops during World War II. The Society was officially formed in March of 1946 with Rube Goldberg as its first president. Within two weeks, the society had 32 members.
